Dress Makin' and Halloween

When I started planning Adeline's 1 year birthday party I decided I wanted to make Adeline her Birthday Dress. I found lots of ones I loved on Etsy (like here and here) but I knew that if I applied myself I could make a dress. I bought this pattern from PatternsByAmy on Etsy. This was my first sewing project using an actual pattern, well now that I think of it I did use a pattern on the shoes from previous post.

I am pretty proud of myself with how it turned out and how easy it was. I've never done buttons so just for the test dress I use snaps. My Mother-In-Law just got a new sewing machine - so we are hoping to do the button holes with it for the actual birthday dress. So let me know what you think!

So hard to get Adeline to stand on her own lately! Here she is with my MIL today modeling her new dress. We just tried it on over her clothes since she'll have to layer it.

Today was also Adeline's First Halloween! We didn't really do anything special, she just helped me pass out 60 treat bags I had made up earlier in the month. We ran out of bags within 45 minutes! I just hate to spend so much money on candy and junk to hand out. I guess next year though I need to buy a bit more.

So...you say it's Halloween?

DIY Baby Shoes

Yesterday I went Olde Salem Days and while there bought some super cute shoes from Crazy Leggies and they inspired me to make some for Adeline. I used the Modern Baby Bootie Tutorial from Tao of Craft. These are my first attempt and I am a beginner sewer so they are not perfect! But they are wearable and hopefully I learned a lesson or two so I can make more for Adeline!

Any recommendations on how to sew a straighter line in the curve of the shoe? That was my worst newbie mistake!

Ribbon Blankets/Lovies

I started making these cute little blankets last year. I made my first one for my friends little boy, Logan,  and then one for Adeline (not pictured). They are super easy to make and I get tons of compliments and people asking where I got Adeline's at! I like the 10x10 or 12x12 size and only a few ribbons or a lot! Just whatever I think looks good.

Here is the one I made for Logan in November 2011.

Here are my recent projects:

DIY - Tablet Sleeve

My wonderful husband bought me a ASUS Tablet since we both try to share the laptop (which doesn't work very well!). I'm very happy with the tablet but there are not really any cases for it like there are for iPads. So I decided to make my own.

I've never written a tutorial nor did I remember to take step by step pictures. But basically I just measured the tablet and cut out the fabric an inch or so larger - 4 pieces total, 2 of each fabric. Then also 2 pieces of interfacing for padding. Here is the fabric I used. The stripes is for the inside and flowers on the outside.

Next I sewed the two flower pieces and interfacing together (flower side facing each other) with the top side open then trimmed and flipped out. And I know this is probably not proper sewing, but then I sewed the two inside pieces together and stuck it inside. I had cut it a bit longer so more would stick up, then I folded it over and made my own binding for the top with the inside fabric. It made the opening a little tight, but not too tight and I'm happy with the sleeve! Next time I'll make it a bit longer so I can use snaps to secure the opening.

Drool Pads for Baby Carriers

So my planned post for Chalkboard Tags isn't ready yet. The paint has to set for 24 hours before I can use chalk on them, so look for that post in a couple days. Instead I'll share with a recent sewing project, Drool Pads for Baby Carriers.

I have an ERGO Baby Carrier and decided I wanted to make some Reversible Drool Pads for the straps instead of buying some so I could add some color as I bought the Galaxy Gray Original ERGO. I stalked on Pinterest to find a Tutorial and I found a couple - Lu Bird Baby and Simply Sweet Life. So I looked over both and used elements from both Tutorials. At the time I made these I wasn't planning a blog so didn't take in progress pics - but the tutorials are great with awesome pics to follow if you want to make your own. If you don't want to make your own but are interested in a pair, let me know and I can make you some!

Here is the pair I made for Adeline, had to be pink of course!

I also have an old college friend who has moved to Hawaii. She has a Boba Carrier so I made her some Drool Pads for her carrier:

Here are the babies and their drool pads:

Edited to add - wow this post has had a huge number of viewers! Let me know, are you looking for how to make them or someone to buy from? I've considered selling these in my ETSY shop, let me know!

Welcome to my blog!

After spending the past couple weeks reading blogs and doing a lot of thinking I've decided to start my own blog. I love to DIY from directions found online or just things I think of (which I think are original, but most likely not!).

I've decided to make my blog a mix of DIY and Mommy. Yes, the dreaded MOMMY blog! I have a 7.5 month old, how can I not blog about our ever changing lives and the adventurers of Mommyhood!

I love to do crafts. Currently my big crafty adventure is sewing. However I also scrapbook with a great group of local ladies - Queen Bee Croppers of NRV. If you are local and looking to join a scrapbooking group, we welcome new ladies! If you don't use Facebook we also schedule crops here - Group Spaces.

Thank you for reading and I hope to entertain each and every one of you with my future posts.

Upcoming: Using chalkboard paint for a craft for the nursery.
