Mommy MD Guide Review

Recently I won a giveaway for my choice of a Mommy MD Guide. I chose the Toddler Years, since Adeline is past being a baby! She will always be my baby though!

Source
I’m excited to get into this book. This book has over 900 tips from 62 doctors who are also mothers. The topics range from Growth & Development to Learning & Fun and everything in between! This is not your typical HELP!! Book, each chapter begins with a few words and suggestions then several doctors offer their advise and what worked for them and their children. It gives you a broad range of ideas and suggestions to choose from – not just 1 doctor telling you 1 thing to try (which isn’t always what they even do with their own kids).

Right now The Mommy MD Guides have 3 books.
The Mommy MD Guide to Pregnancy and Birth
The Mommy MD Guide to Your Baby’s First Year
The Mommy MD Guide to the Toddler Years

Coming soon they will have:
The Mommy MD Guide to Feeding Your Baby Right
The Mommy MD Guide to Losing Weight and Feeling Great
PLUS more focused titles such as breastfeeding, diaper rash, potty training, and sleep.

While reading through the book I came across a doctor that is local to me in Roanoke, VA. Lennox McNeary, MD works at Carilion Clinic and is also the co-founder for the Mommy Doctors Bakery who makes the awesome Milkin’ Cookies!

Happy Easter!

We typically have Adeline's pictures taken at Portrait Innovations, but for Easter I wanted something different. Some photographers offer mini-sessions for Holidays so I put it out on Facebook to see who was still offering Easter sessions. My friend Amelia sent me the link to Stephanie Crawford's Facebook page - she was offering Easter Sessions! I loved her pictures on her page and a couple other friends also recommended her, so I made an appointment. I am glad I did. Her Spring/Easter pictures turned out wonderfully. I can't wait to get some printed and hung up in the house.

Here are a few of my favorites!

I highly recommend Stephanie for any photos! I hope to use her this summer for some family portraits outside!

Crafty March

This month I got few things made for my shop and worked on a custom order for a family friend.

Linda wanted a couple custom shirts for a friend who is having a baby soon, and I love working on custom shirts and coming up with ideas. Here is a onesie made special for the little boy, Rex!

The parents like all things nautical and beachy so we made a couple onesies!

She also picked out a few burp clothes and another onesie from my shop for baby Rex! Thank you Linda for supporting my business!

Since I was on a roll I went ahead and made a couple onesies for the upcoming Great Cloth Diaper Change. I may make a couple more, we'll see.

We have now settled on a new location, and I am very happy since it is a lot closer to our house! It will be at Crossroads Church - 4827 Delray St NW, Roanoke, VA 24012.

While away one day for a crafting a sewed up a bunch of leggings and finished them last week. Adeline loves to wear her leggings!

Cloth Diaper Excitement!

I am so excited that the Great Cloth Diaper Change is less than a month away! This will be Adeline's second year participating. This year I will also be set up as a vendor selling my wares from my shop - Crafty Weeks. I also volunteered this year to help out with the event. Since I'll be a vendor I can't help much the day of, but I am working on blog posts for the sponsors!

So check out the blog and all the wonderful sponsors that are donating items for the raffle and some will also be vendors at the event.

Right now the location is in limbo as we are busting at the seams at the current location. This is awesome! It means the word about Cloth Diapering is getting out there and more and more parents have decided to go with Cloth Diapers. Using cloth diapers are amazing for your child and your pocket book! More people are noticing this, yeah! Go Cloth!

After looking at the above picture of Adeline, I think I'm going to try to change her into the same diaper this year! Which was her Tots Bots Flower Power diaper, the Fuzzibunz Elite one was what she was wearing before I changed her (maybe keep that the same as well!). As long as I can remember that is.

If you look really hard you can see Adeline and I to the left of the picture (I'm in a blue shirt). Source
You can also follow the Great Cloth Diaper Change - Roanoke/Salem on Facebook. If you decide to come on out and join us you can let us know on the Event page and make sure you fill out the Registration Form by clicking on Buy Tickets (no purchase required, just a link to Google document)

Thin Mint Cupcakes

I am part of a local MOPS group and we rotate each month who brings dinner/dessert. So this month was my turn, and I really dislike cooking. So I decided to bake cupcakes! I went to a baby shower last Saturday for a friend and one of the shower hosts made Thin Mint Cupcakes! YUM! So I decided to make them for the MOPS meeting. I made sure to make enough for Alan and I too!

I wanted an easy recipe for this batch - I usually make cupcake and icing from scratch...but wasn't in the mood! So I found the recipe I used on allParenting.com - super easy! I didn't have any girl scout cookies (eek, I haven't had any this year!) so I got some Keebler Grasshoppers, which taste pretty close to the Thin Mints.

Love my Kitchen Aid!
For the icing you can dye it green and put flavor (mint) in it. I've never done that so it was pretty neat. We just used 3 containers of White Whipped Icing for 48 cupcakes and added the green food coloring and Peppermint.

So pretty!!

Then topped with half a cookie!

They turned out pretty good! For some reason a couple of my cupcake pans didn't like the cookie in the bottom of the cupcake. The cookie adhered to the wrapper! So I'm guessing they cooked too long in those pans, but one pan did it perfectly and all were baked the same amount of time. Oh well. Now I know for next time!

upa-lala Review - Eco-bags, Wet Bags & Baby Carriers

Recently I won a giveaway from Mom-A-Logues for a $25 Gift Certificate to upa-lala! I needed a new wet bag or two so that is what I got. I'd fallen in love with the fabric pattern Optic Blossom so I had to order wet bags in that pattern! I choose to get 2 small wet bags (7"x7") which are great for small trips to the store for Adeline's diapers.

If you are in the market for a wet bag or baby carrier (only on her website) make sure you check out upa-lala! Make sure you tell Brittan that Alison @ Crafty Weeks sent you! You can use the code Crafty10 for 10% off your purchase!

Personalized/Custom Shirts and Onesies

I love being creative and making things! When someone contacts me to do a custom item for them it's a challenge. Being a SAHM (WAHM), there aren't many things that get my brain in gear - so being able to figure out how to do XYZ really helps.

A friend of mine in our local Playgroup is pregnant with B/G Twins! So exciting. I found out the twins theme for their room was elephants so I decided to make them matching onesies with their names. They are B/G so no confusing the two like same gender twins - but still cute to have their names on their clothes!

Another friend in the playgroup decided she wanted to order matching shirts for her daughters for their upcoming photos. She provided a symbol that had meaning to her husband and I was able to upload it into my program and cut the symbol out. Then we surrounded the symbol with flowers to make it more girly! The shirts are light pink, with flocked green and purple heat transfer.

Frequently customers will contact me through ETSY wanting something I have posted, but in a different size or color. Recently a customer contacted me wanting THIS in a different size. Due to the seasons changing we also decided to make it a short sleeve shirt. Since I am just a small operation I'm limited on what colors/shirts I have access to. The above pink shirts were ordered online, but for this request I had to look local. I wasn't able to find a light gray shirt - only dark gray and black. We went with the dark gray which looks great with the green tractor!
